Description and Performance Evaluation of HARAL (Hybrid Adaptive Random Access ProtocoL), an efficient Protocol for Multi-access Channels

چکیده
Random Multi-access Protocols has been used as the MAC protocol over Multi-access channels. They are specially recommended when there are a large population of users with low and bursty traffic as for example it will be in HFC (Hybrid Fiber-Coax) networks with multimedia services, we should be sure that the access to the network copes with the QoS. each type of traffic requires. We will describe in this paper a new protocol named HARAL (Hybrid Adaptive Random Access ProtocoL), basically it is a collision random multi-access protocol with distributed queues. Its main features are to be robust, adaptive, simple and easy to implement, it also can be easily modified for different services, thus it can configured to be blocked/non-blocked, windowed/not-windowed, with fix or variable number of minislots, and so on. A deep analysis of its main performance parameters has been also computed. We think that HARAL suits very well to the requirements different multi-access networks demand such HFC, industrial, wireless and so on.

In recent years, mobile ad-hoc networks have been used widely due to advances in wireless technology. These networks are formed in any environment that is needed without a fixed infrastructure or centralized management. Mobile ad-hoc networks have some characteristics and advantages such as wireless medium access, multi-hop routing, low cost development, dynamic topology and etc. In these netwo...
متن کاملMulti-channel Medium Access Control Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey
Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. Hence, using multiple channels can significantly ...

In this paper an efficient hybrid MAC-layer protocol for multi-channel networking structures is presented and evaluated. This protocol, named MITION, is suitable for control applications, where high operational reliability is required and strict performance criteria exist, due to the need of critical-time response for time-constrained information packets. The MITION protocol uses a channel sele...
متن کاملMultiple Access for ATM-Based Multiservice Satellite Networks
In this paper we present and evaluate a hybrid-modular multiple access protocol for ATM transmission in a multiservice satellite system. Given appropriate synchronization and Doppler (shift) compensation, the protocol components can cope with the dynamics of the satellite constellation and are suitable to both mobile and fixed user environments. The general protocol framework is first given wit...
